Reaching Bangkok from India has become significantly easier in 2026, thanks to new visa-free policies and expanded flight routes from several Indian cities.

1. By Air (Fastest & Most Popular)
Bangkok is served by two major airports: Suvarnabhumi (BKK) (primary international hub) and Don Mueang (DMK) (mostly low-cost carriers).
- Direct Flight Hubs: You can fly directly to Bangkok in 3 to 5 hours from:
- New Delhi & Mumbai: Numerous daily flights via Air India, IndiGo, and Thai Airways.
- Kolkata: The shortest route (approx. 2.5 hours) with budget options like Thai Vietjet Air and IndiGo.
- Bangalore, Hyderabad, & Chennai: Frequent direct service via Air India Express, Thai AirAsia, and IndiGo.
- Regional Addition: As of early 2026, Kushinagar Airport has also started direct flights to Bangkok, catering specifically to religious tourism.
- Airlines: Major players include Thai Airways, IndiGo, Air India, Thai AirAsia X, and Thai Lion Air.
2. Visa-Free Entry (New 2026 Rules)
The entry process for Indian citizens has been greatly simplified:
- 60-Day Visa-Free Stay: Indian passport holders can now enter Thailand visa-free for up to 60 days for tourism or short business trips.
- Extension: This stay can typically be extended for an additional 30 days at a local immigration office.
- Requirements: * Passport with at least 6 months validity.
- Proof of a return or onward ticket.
- Proof of funds: You may be asked to show approximately 10,000 THB (roughly ₹23,000) per person in cash or bank balance.
- Digital Arrival Card: You may need to complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) online before your flight.
3. The Overland Route (Adventure)
While the India-Myanmar-Thailand Trilateral Highway is a massive project, it is currently projected for full completion in 2027.
- Current Status: While you can technically drive from Moreh (Manipur) through Myanmar to reach the Mae Sot (Thailand) border, this route is subject to strict permit requirements, mandatory local escorts in Myanmar, and current regional stability checks.
- Driving Note: Remember that India and Thailand drive on the left, but Myanmar drives on the right, requiring lane switches at each border.
Getting Around from the Airport.
- From BKK: Use the Airport Rail Link to reach downtown Bangkok (Phaya Thai Station) in about 30 minutes for approx. 45 THB.
- From DMK: Use the SRT Red Line or the “A” series airport buses (A1, A2) which connect to the BTS Skytrain and MRT Subway networks.
